A Letter to My Children

My dear children,

I wanted to leave you something more than photographs.

Photographs show faces, but they do not always tell the story behind the smile.

I wanted to leave you my thoughts, my prayers, my hopes, my fears, and the little moments that made up our everyday lives.

As I write this, you are still young.

Our days are filled with lessons around the dining table, cups of tea growing cold while I answer questions, laughter echoing through the house, and the occasional chaos that comes with sharing life together.

Some days are long.

Some days are beautiful.

Many days are both.

I want you to know what I believed during this season of my life.

I believed that God was faithful even when I could not see what He was doing.

I believed that His plans were better than my own, even when the path ahead felt uncertain.

I believed that kindness matters, that integrity matters, and that the way we treat people reveals far more about us than the words we speak.

I believed that family was one of God's greatest gifts.

I worried too.

I worried whether I was doing enough.

Whether I was teaching you well.

Whether I was giving you the right opportunities.

Whether I was preparing you for the world you would one day step into.

Like many mothers, I often wondered if I was getting it right.

Looking back now, I hope you see that even when I worried, I never stopped trying.

You made me laugh more than you will ever know.

The funny things you said.

The stories you created.

The endless questions.

The random conversations that started with one simple thought and somehow ended somewhere completely unexpected.

You filled our home with life.

You filled my heart with joy.

Most importantly, I want you to know what God was teaching me.

He was teaching me patience.

He was teaching me to trust Him when I wanted answers immediately.

He was teaching me that growth often happens quietly.

He was teaching me that ordinary days are not ordinary at all.

Some of the moments we remember most are the ones that seemed insignificant at the time.

A walk together.

A meal around the table.

A conversation in the car.

A quiet evening at home.

I have learned that these are the moments that become treasures.

If there is one thing I hope you never doubt, it is how deeply I loved you.

Not because you were perfect.

Not because you achieved something.

Not because you made me proud.

I loved you simply because you were mine.

From the moment I knew you existed, my heart made room for you.

You have brought challenges, growth, lessons, and countless blessings into my life, but above all, you have brought purpose.

My prayer for you has always been the same.

That you would know God for yourselves.

That you would walk with integrity.

That you would be kind.

That you would love deeply.

That you would never forget where you came from.

That you would cherish your family.

And that you would live a life that matters.

If these words survive longer than I do, then let them stand as a reminder that during this season of life, your mother loved Jesus, loved her family, loved her Caribbean roots, and loved each of you more than words could ever fully express.

Thank you for giving my life so much meaning.

With all my love,

Mum
